EQ II Firewall Information
Sony Online Entertainment does not support the use of firewalls and proxies, including cable/DSL NAT routers, campus and office networks, or any type of Internet connection sharing services. However, in an effort to assist you in configuring your systems on your own, we would like to provide the following information which may help you in setting up your firewall to work with EverQuest II.
EverQuest II LaunchPad and Patch Servers
A TCP connection is initiated from the LaunchPad client port > 1023 to patch.station.sony.com at port 7000.
A UDP connection is initiated from the LaunchPad client port > 1023 to sdlaunchpad1.station.sony.com and sdlaunchpad2.station.sony.com port range 3016-3021 and 9700-9703.
EverQuest II Patch:
A TCP connection is initiated from the EverQuest II client port > 1023 to patch.everquest2.com, ablpatch.everquest2.com, abepatch.everquest2.com, or rrpatch.everquest2.com at port 7010
Everquest II Game Client
UDP connections are initiated from the EverQuest II client port >1023 to servers on UDP ports 9100, and UDP ports in the range 32800-33000
Additionally, ICMP messages type 0 (echo reply), 3 (unreachable), 8 (echo request) and 11 (expired) should be permitted bi-directionally between the client PC and the EverQuest II servers.
EverQuest II Servers Subnets
There are multiple IP addresses for the Patch and LaunchPad clusters, and they may change as the network demands, so check often using a DNS lookup tool if you provide a specific firewall rule for these services. The EverQuest II server IP addresses are currently in these subnets: 64.37.158.*, 199.108.13.*, 199.108.12.*, 199.108.202.*, 199.108.203.*, 195.33.135.* |
Expect to see this linked on our news page on release day... |

0.0 Good god! I sure hope I don't understand that. Especially the part about "campus and office networks" and "Internet connection sharing services". We have a network hub that I share with my families computers to connect to our DSL service. Is this what they mean by "Internet connection sharing services"? And it won't work at college?! WTFH?!
p.s. Please dont tease my semi-total lack of networking knowledge |

No, they just mean that "they" aren't going to help you set up "your" network to run the game. But, relax, there is plenty of brain power here to help sort out any problems.
Just remember, nobody here is getting paid to help you either.... They're just cool like that |

| I've been on various forms of NAT and it works fine - the guidelines above seem a little... cautious. |

| I'm firewalled well enough to need to open ports for p2p apps, but EQ2 worked just fine for me during Beta without touching my router's firewall. Hopefully this is not that big of an issue . . . I certainly never heard any complaints during Beta about people having firewall issues. |

EQ2 has the same problems than EQ1 : you don't have any parameter that allows you to use a true firewall.
Let's suppose you are playing in a place where you must cross a ROUTER before the FIREWALL, then you are in trouble and must get a 3d party programm.
Of course the only place where you need to cross a router before a firewall is at work, and you don't play at work, do you ? |

| umm, ya, actually work is the only place I play... but didn't have problems with EQ live, so I'm gonna have problems with EQII? |

I'm in this boat; Playing at work is my only option at the moment after the day is done. I use a D-Link DI-604 router -- connecting two computers -- as my firewall. (It is the only firewall that I have.) With what you just said, I am worried that the game will not work for me.
There must be ways to open up those specific ports, right? |

| can someone give me a a passage with port numbers and all for eq1? thanks so much for posting the eq2 one, i've been concerned about that for some time. i have a friend who's going to keep playing eq1 while is tart eq2 (until i get him hooked), and we have a messed up internet firewall at college. when we cast spells u dont actually start casting till about 5 secs later, and when u chase a mob, u have nooo idea where it really is. really sucks, limits a lot of how good u can be skill wise. and no soloing unless it's undead and they dont run. |

I'm also having problems with my School/Dorm's firewall..Apparently they block ICMP broadcasts. Anyone know of any programs or ways around this? My eq2 life depends on it . |
